Storm anemometer jammed, no wind speed

Matthew Halloran Oct 13, 2019 07:42AM PDT

Hi all
I have a Storm that is not reporting wind speed due to the anemometer jamming in one position. When spun by hand there is a clear stiff point that takes some effort to overcome. Is there a method to strip down the storm unit allowing me to investigate, though I suspect a bearing failure, to identify the problem and repair it?

It is a little annoying as the unit is approximately 18 months old and I have already had to have the Sky2 replaced due to a battery charging issue which incurred an import duty charge which I had to pay even though it was a replacement unit.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Kind regards
Matt

Dear Matthew,

You need to change ball bearings in anemometer. It is easy.

You will find model of the ball bearings and exact instructions including pictures in the thread below.
Search Internet for the ball bearing model to buy it in your country.
Be careful and check whether your unit has anemometer’s axle made from metal or from plastic.

Just to follow up, this is the first chance I've had to look at changing the bearings due to work commitments. The instructions are spot on for doing this, once suitable tooling was located the repair only took a couple of minutes, cleaning the unit was a different matter.

Total cost of the repair - £2.80

Thanks Vitek for the link and the easy to follow instructions.
Matt
