Sky Battery dead

Raymond Melberg Apr 12, 2018 04:45PM PDT

I have disassembled my BloomSky as I was told mine was out of warranty and they would not be replacing or fixing it. The AC/DC plug says output = 12VDC, and the battery is reading 8.49V, so I'm going to assume it's a dead battery pack. I wonder why they don't offer replacement battery packs online?

Hey Ray,

Our products are not designed to be easily disassembled but we can definitely look into that issue for you, shoot us an email at support@bloomsky.com.

Cheers,
Mike

Hello Raymond,

Your assumption that a voltage difference between the power inlet 12 V DC and the battery voltage 8.49 V means that the battery is dead is not correct.

To charge any battery you must always use higher voltage than the nominal voltage of the battery. Electricity is like water flow – down the hill. That is from the higher electric potential 12 V to the lower one 7.4 V, see below.

The battery in Sky is a rechargeable lithium-ion one with a nominal voltage 7.4 V. Your battery gives 8.49 V, which indicates the battery is good and fully charged.
